Scanning

Consider the Virginia project:
http://www.blakearchive.org/public/about/tech/
which describes in detail how they did their scanning. (This is
a good project by a respected and knowledgable place). Nevertheless,
answer the following:

*If you had half as much money as they did, and wanted to scan the
same amount of stuff, where would you cut corners to save money?

*If you had twice as much money, and wanted to avoid as much nitpicking
criticism as possible, where would you do something better than they
did?
