Primary interest is in research, education and service in information science, a field concerned with problems of effective collection, organization, storage, retrieval and communication of information, by taking advantage of the modern information technology.

Basic research: Theories and experimentsrelated to: human information behavior; human-computer interaction from the human viewpoint; and modeling interaction processes in information retrieval. Notion of relevance in relation to information and information systems. Theoretical and pragmatic study of value of information and library services. Nature of information science as a field.

Applied research: Criteria, measures and methods for performance evaluation of information retrieval systems and information systems in general. Study of users and use of library and information services. Effective mediation in information systems. Increasing effectiveness of searching the Web and large databases. Evaluation of digital libraries.

International aspects: International communication of scientific and technical information. Application of information science and information systems internationally. Design and evaluation of innovative information systems in developing countries. Study, evaluation and improvement of library and information services in a number of countries. International consulting.

Education: Study, evaluation, design and restructuring of curricula in information science and librarianship. Interdisciplinary relations and communication between information science and related disciplines. Linking information science research with professional education.
